The Applied Learning RequirementPurposeThe Applied Learning requirement is designed to provide experiential learning opportunities that are student-initiated and related to the student's learning interests. This requirement is for participants seeking the Certificate of Completion. Designing Your ExperienceThe first step is to talk with our Academic Advisor, Dr. Gaylene Carpenter, about defining learning objectives and activities that are appropriate for you. Detailed guidelines and approval forms are available through one-on-one advising at a workshop session or by special arrangement. The Practicum and Project activities may be directly related, or may be designed as distinct experiences, depending on your learning objectives and opportunities. Completed projects created by participants who have earned the Certificate of Completion are available for review. Registration ProceduresThe Applied Learning requirement is administered as credit-bearing registration, consisting of 4 credits in practicum and 2 credits in special problems. A total of 6 credit hours is required to satisfy the applied portion of the certificate. Please note that the registration process and fees for the "Applied" portion are separate from the workshop registration process.
